JAZ SLATER // NEXT WAVE
Handle: @jazslaterr
Job Title: Senior Talent Agent
Workplace: MGMT
Location: Sydney, Australia
What does a typical day in your life look like?
No two days are ever the same, but they usually involve a lot of emails and meetings, reviewing contracts, managing campaigns, and working closely with our talent on content & what they have coming up that week. What I love most is how fast paced the industry is. You’re always problem solving or working on something new, which keeps it exciting.
What’s one early career move that opened more doors than you expected?
Consistently asking for feedback and implementing it. Early on in my career, feedback was something that was spoken about regularly, which made me really comfortable seeking it out from both managers and peers. Being open to it and showing tangible growth built trust quickly and (I think) demonstrated how motivated I was to keep progressing.
What’s the most exciting opportunity this role has given you so far?
Definitely the opportunity to travel and work with such amazing people. If you would have told 20 year old Jaz that I’d be travelling for work, I wouldn’t have believed you, I feel so lucky!! Beyond that, I’m constantly inspired by the people I interact with, both talent and clients, who are incredibly driven and creative. It pushes me to keep raising the bar for myself!
What’s one skill someone should learn before applying for a role like yours?
The ability to think both strategically and creatively. This role requires you to use both sides of your brain, from understanding a brand’s objectives to working with talent on content that feels authentic to them. Building strong rapport with talent is a huge part of that, as it allows you to navigate their goals more effectively. No two talent are the same, so having a strong understanding of both the industry and the people within it, from clients to creators, is incredibly valuable.
